What can we do for you?
A young carer is a child or young person under the age of 18 who provides care to another family member who have a physical illness, disability, mental ill health, a sensory disability or a problematic use of alcohol or drugs. The level of care they provide would usually be undertaken by an adult. As a result of this, it has a significant impact on their childhood. The care can be practical, physical and emotional support.
Friends of Young Carers (Wigan & Leigh), provide a choice for young carers, giving them respite, friendship and support. It helps young carers develop social skills and can reduce the sense of isolation. It will also give young carers the opportunity to experience the everyday pleasures of childhood, which is an essential part of growth and development.
If you are, or know someone who is a young carer in the Wigan Borough then this is the place for you. Click below for more information.
